The Garden Experience at Plots to Plates

Enjoy nature and learn about gardening while helping CCPL staff weed and water the library's plot at Plots to Plates Organic Gardens.

Plots to Plates Organic Gardens was created by the CCS Green Team in collaboration with Carmel Clay Schools and is located just west of the Carmel Middle School tennis courts (300 S Guilford Rd).

Each Garden Experience outdoor workshop includes weeding and watering the garden followed by a 15-minute garden topic discussion. Come to as many as you like! Space is limited, and advance registration is required.

Starting Seeds

Learn how to start seeds. Basics include reading seed packets, seed germination, and thinning seedlings. Volunteers will receive a paper pot with seeds. 

Tuesday, June 28, from 10-11am

Container Gardening for Small Spaces

Containers are wonderful places to start for beginning gardeners. Discover how to garden in small spaces while learning the pros and cons of container gardening. Volunteers will receive a potted herb plant. 

Tuesday, July 12, from 10-11am

Houseplants

Learn about low-maintenance houseplants for beginners. Basics include learning to read plant labels and identifying what your plant needs. Participants will receive a small houseplant to take home. 

Tuesday, July 26, from 10-11am

Flowers and Honey

Learn how bees pollinate flowers. Discover how different flowers affect the flavor of honey. Volunteers will receive a small jar of honey. 

One hour of community service is available at each session for Teen Volunteer Corps members who attend and participate. If you are not yet a member of the TVC and would like to earn service hours, applications are available online and are accepted all year from students in grades 6–12.

Please wear sturdy shoes (no flip-flops) and bring your own water bottle, sunscreen, and work gloves (recommended). If you do not have gloves, disposable gloves will be available onsite.
