The Indiana Republican Party has issued a statement in recognition of School Choice Week, highlighting Governor Mike Braun's initiatives to broaden educational options for students across the state. The party expressed support for Braun's proposal aimed at expanding school choice, allowing families greater freedom in selecting educational paths.

The statement praised Governor Braun's efforts to enhance teacher support through increased salaries. "With National School Choice Week upon us, the Indiana Republican Party commends Governor Mike Braun on his proposal to expand school choice to all students, giving every family the opportunity to pursue the best education for their child," it read.

Braun's plan includes raising K-12 spending by 2% annually over the budget period, amounting to an additional $546 million over two years. This increase is alongside plans to extend the school choice voucher program universally. Lisa Hershman, Secretary of Management and Budget under Braun, noted intentions to elevate the minimum teacher salary from $40,000 to $45,000—a move supported by Senator Linda Rogers through proposed legislation.

Erin Lucas, Chairwoman of the Indiana Republican Party, underscored Governor Braun’s background in education and commitment to fulfilling promises made during his campaign. "As the first Governor to begin his political career on the school board, Mike Braun knows the importance of school choice," Lucas stated. She added that expanding these programs could lead to improved outcomes for children while also advocating for better compensation and conditions for educators.
