The Indiana Republican Party has issued a statement in response to Governor Mike Braun's Executive Order 25-29, announced on January 28, 2025. The order aims to address immigration issues and enhance public safety in collaboration with federal authorities.
"Governor Braun has been to our southern border, he stood with President Trump to build the wall, and he fought for the safety of our communities while in the Senate," stated Indiana Republican Party Chairwoman Erin Lucas. "His executive order ensures that state contractors are not using loopholes to hire illegal immigrants over American citizens, encourages Indiana law enforcement agencies to cooperate with federal immigration efforts to enforce the rule of law, and ensures communication with federal law enforcement authorities to protect our communities." Lucas added that this move is considered a win for Indiana residents.
The background provided by the party highlights Governor Braun's leadership on immigration matters. The executive order mandates that state vendors certify their use of E-Verify before entering contracts with the State of Indiana. This measure is intended to ensure that taxpayer money does not fund contracts involving illegal immigrants.
Furthermore, state law enforcement agencies are required to report credible evidence regarding illegal aliens involved in criminal activities or posing significant threats. The Indiana National Guard will also offer resources and cooperation with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
This initiative aligns with Governor Braun's commitment to prioritize public safety operations through collaboration with the Trump administration.
