Trine University Athletics issued the following announcement on Oct. 23.
The Trine University women's soccer team improved their chances at securing a bid to the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) postseason with a 4-0 victory over
Albion College Saturday afternoon.
The Thunder defense held the Britons to just a single shot on goal in the match, with goalkeeper Sophie Aschemeier [Findlay, Ohio / Liberty-Benton] making the lone save on it.
The win brings Trine's record to 13-3-1 overall, 4-3 in conference play. Albion falls to 9-3-1, 4-2-1 in MIAA action.
The first good look at the net for Trine came via a free ball in the box, with Lia Franzone [Lancaster, N.Y. / Lancaster] getting a touch with the keeper out of position. An Albion
defender was there to prevent the Thunder from getting on the board in the 15th minute.
Trine got back-to-back goals just before period end with Taylor Noll [Anna, Ohio / Anna] converting in the 39th minute and Bella Mabry [Oregon, Ohio / Clay] scoring off a find from
Veronica Ocampo [Elkhart, Ind. / Elkhart Memorial] in the 44th.
Teresa Ashbrook [Dewitt, Mich. / Dewitt] netted her 15th goal of the 2021 campaign just over two minutes into the second to give Trine a commanding 3-0 advantage. Olivia
Argentieri [East Amherst, N.Y. / Clarence] was there for the assist.
Julia Surratt [Madison Heights, Mich. / Marion] added a penalty kick goal in the 83rd minute to get to the 4-0 final after Megan Davis [Genoa, Ohio / Genoa Area] was fouled in the
box.
Andrea Wright [Plainfield, Ind. / Plainfield], Rachel Hill [Guilford, Ind. / East Central] and Ellie Price [Terre Haute, Ind. / Terre Haute North Vigo] each spent 90 minutes on the pitch
in the defense, contributing to the shutout.
The regular season comes to a close with a home match against the Alma College Scots on Tuesday, October 26. It will be a win-and-in match for postseason play beginning at 4 pm.
