The request, sent by Hoosier State Today, a media organization dedicated to comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, seeks detailed information about candidates running in the upcoming spring elections.
The requested information includes each candidate's full name, the office they are running for, their jurisdiction, and party affiliation. In addition to these details, Hoosier State Today has also asked for contact information for each candidate. This encompasses their address, phone number, and email address.
As members of the media at Hoosier State Today, we are committed to gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records is crucial for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
Given our role in disseminating information to the public as a media organization, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver under the Indiana Access to Public Records Act § 5-14-3-1 et seq. We await a response from the Indiana Secretary of State's office regarding this request.
