U.S. Senators Todd Young, Ben Cardin, and Mike Braun have introduced a resolution to designate November 2024 as Stomach Cancer Awareness Month. This initiative aims to highlight the impact of stomach cancer on Americans and promote early detection and treatment.
"Stomach cancer continues to have a tragic impact on the lives of many Americans. Since 2018, I have introduced this resolution to raise awareness about the deadly disease so that we can improve early detection and treatment and hopefully save more lives," stated Senator Young.
The resolution was initially presented in 2018 in memory of Matthew Tully, an Indianapolis Star reporter who succumbed to stomach cancer that year. Stomach cancer ranks as the fifth most commonly diagnosed cancer globally and is challenging to detect early.
The resolution advocates for increased education for patients and healthcare providers, along with enhanced research into early diagnosis, screening, and treatment methods. The United States Senate is anticipated to pass the resolution soon.
