Senators Mike Braun, Jon Tester, and Sherrod Brown have announced the successful passage of their bipartisan Mark Our Place Act in the House of Representatives. The bill now awaits President Biden's signature to become law. This legislation amends existing rules to enable the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to provide headstones, markers, or medallions for all Medal of Honor recipients, irrespective of their date of death. Currently, such honors are only available to those who served after 1917.

The companion legislation was introduced in the House by Representative Morgan Luttrell.

Senator Mike Braun expressed his pride in the bill's progression, stating: "Our Medal of Honor recipients represent the best America has to offer. They should be honored regardless of when they served. I am proud to see this bill that will memorialize the valor of these American heroes be signed into law."

Sergeant First Class Sammy Davis, a Medal of Honor recipient from 1968, also voiced his support: "I’d like to thank everybody involved in the Mark Our Place Act. This is a great bill to recognize the recipients of America’s highest medal for valor, the Medal of Honor, and I fully support it."
