Ahead of Georgia's parliamentary elections on October 26, U.S. Senator Todd Young (R-Ind.) has joined as a cosponsor of the Georgian People’s Act. This bipartisan legislation was introduced by Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) and Jim Risch (R-Idaho). The bill aims to hold accountable Georgian government officials and individuals responsible for corruption, human rights abuses, and efforts related to advancing or facilitating the foreign influence law.

"The United States stands with the Georgian people and their pursuit of a Euro-Atlantic future," stated Senator Young. He expressed concern over the Georgian government's recent actions aligning with Russia, which he believes reject the desires of Georgians and pose a significant threat.

Senator Shaheen emphasized the urgency of the situation in Georgia, stating, "Together, we’re sending a strong message that there is robust bipartisan support for our legislation." She reiterated that support for Georgia's Euro-Atlantic aspirations will remain consistent regardless of political control in Washington.

Senator Risch added, "This bill sends a strong message from Congress that the U.S. is united behind the Georgian people as they pursue a future in the transatlantic community." He affirmed recognition of Georgia's desire for European integration and commitment to supporting it through U.S. policy.

The list of cosponsors includes Senators Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), Mitt Romney (R-Utah), Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.), John Cornyn (R-Texas), Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska), Angus King (I-Maine), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), George Helmy (D-N.J.), Ben Cardin (D-M.D.), Pete Ricketts (R-Neb.), Chris Coons (D-Del.), and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.).
