The Indiana Chamber of Commerce has recognized Parkview Health as the 2024 Jackson Lewis Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Champion. The announcement was made during the annual DEI Summit held at the Ritz Charles in Carmel.
This award acknowledges organizations making significant efforts towards creating equitable workplaces. Parkview Health, based in Fort Wayne, operates 14 hospitals and 200 provider offices across northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio. According to Vanessa Green Sinders, President and CEO of the Indiana Chamber, "Parkview was one of the first companies in Indiana to focus on diversity, equity and inclusion."
Sinders emphasized that Parkview's approach goes beyond just having a mission statement about diversity. She stated that it involves "truly bringing everyone to the table, giving them a voice and taking action to ensure equity and inclusion across its vast healthcare operation."
Jackson Lewis P.C., a national law firm sponsoring the award, supports the idea that inclusivity strengthens organizations. Brian McDermott from Jackson Lewis’ Indianapolis office highlighted that companies like Parkview serve as examples for others. He remarked, “The best available information shows a diverse workforce is a better workforce.”
Tina Dukandar from Jackson Lewis noted there were many contenders for this year's DEI award. She mentioned that DEI initiatives are expanding across various organizations in Indiana.
Dukandar explained that Parkview stands out because they understand "DEI initiatives are not a one-size-fits-all." The company employs several strategies such as having a dedicated DEI recruitment specialist and establishing Co-worker Resource Groups for faith and belief, veterans, and working mothers.
These groups aim to provide employees with platforms for connection and support within the organization.
