Ahoy! Trine University Wind Ensemble celebrates 20 years of ‘Pirates’ on Feb 26

Location:  T. Furth Center for the Performing Arts.

The Trine University Wind Ensemble will celebrate 20 years of Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean” with its “Sailing the High Seas” concert, beginning at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26, in the T. Furth Center for the Performing Arts.

The concert is free and open to the public.

The wind ensemble, under the direction of Mark Kays, head of Trine’s Department of Music, will perform the following works:

  • “A Cricket Sang and Set the Sun” by Blake Tyson (Marimba solo by Nate Siders, a senior from Angola, Indiana, majoring in mathematics)
  • “Parade of the Tall Ships” by Jay Chattaway
  • “Curse of the Black Pearl” by Klause Badelt, including “The Medallion Calls,” “The Black Pearl,” “To the Pirate’s Cave,” “One Last Shot” and “He’s A Pirate”
  • “Dead Man’s Chest” by Hans Zimmer, including “Jack Sparrow,” “The Kraken,” “Davy Jones,” “I’ve Got My Eye On You” and “Wheel Of Fortune”
  • “The World’s End” by Hans Zimmer, including “Hoist the Colors,” “Up Is Down,” “One Day” and “Drink Up Me Hearties”
Wind ensemble members are as follows:

Alto saxophone: Keely Brooks, a senior majoring in chemical engineering from Van Buren, Ohio; Dean Campbell, a junior majoring in chemical engineering from Batesville, Indiana; Maggie Edel, a freshman majoring in psychology from Mishawaka, Indiana; and Erin Whetstone, a senior majoring in forensic science from Wabash, Indiana.

Baritone saxophone: Michael Ledyard, a junior majoring in mechanical engineering from Bryan, Ohio.

Clarinet: Lillian Hamilton, a sophomore majoring in psychology from Hanna, Indiana; Lance Jutze, a senior majoring in mathematics from Wauseon, Ohio; Hannah Knost, a sophomore majoring in biomedical engineering from Anderson, Indiana; Andrea Mendoza, a junior majoring in biomedical engineering from LaGrange, Indiana; Haylee Smith, a junior majoring in chemical engineering from Wauseon, Ohio; and Trinity Stiles, a sophomore majoring in English education from Highland, Indiana.

Euphonium: Emily Lomax, a senior majoring in forensic science from Goshen, Indiana.

Flute: Jonathan Allen, a senior majoring in biology from Medaryville, Indiana; Madysen Collins, a sophomore majoring in forensic science from Kouts, Indiana; Mykah Garrison, a sophomore majoring in biology from Wauseon, Ohio; Nicholas Gasbarro, a senior majoring in biomedical engineering from Indianapolis; Kaci McComis, a sophomore majoring in English education from Powell, Ohio; Carrianne Thomas, a senior majoring in elementary education/special education from Quincy, Michigan; and Alayna Willitzer, a senior majoring in biomedical engineering from Cecil, Ohio.

Oboe: Ellie Essenberg, a junior majoring in exercise science from Middleville, Michigan.
