The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coach Association (USTFCCCA) announced Thursday that both the Butler men's and women's cross country teams earned All-Academic honors.

The Butler men's team has received the distinction every season since 2014, while the women's team has earned the honor every season since at least 2010.

When combining the men's and women's academic performance, Butler earned the eighth-best GPA in the country. The men hold a GPA of 3.593 that ranks 18th nationally. On the women's side, the Bulldogs carry a GPA of 3.758 that ranks 25th in the nation.

"It's great to see our program inside the Top 10 in the nation again in academic performance," head coach Matt Roe stated. "We've been among a handful of elite performing schools nationally for some time and as a coach, I couldn't be prouder of the young men and women in our program. The academic success of our teams is a direct reflection of our terrifically engaged faculty and our strong student-athletes' unwavering commitment in the classroom."To qualify for All-Academic distinction, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period. 216 men's programs and 249 women's programs had the All-Academic Team honor this season.

Among teams who competed in the 2022 NCAA Men's Cross Country Championships, the Bulldog men trailed only Harvard (3.72) and Tulsa (3.62) in terms of academic performance.

In addition, Barry Keane, Jesse Hamlin, and Jack McMahon on the men's team and Mia Beckham on the women's team were named to 2022 NCAA Division I Cross Country All-Academic Athletes.

Student-athletes who achieve a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and place in the top 25 (or 10 percent) at the NCAA Regional Championships or as an All-American at the NCAA Championships is eligible for the All-Academic honor. Only 124 male and 171 female student-athletes met the criteria for the award this season.
