Darrell Clark will join Ball State University as associate vice president for people and culture, effective Jan. 17, Alan Finn, vice president for Business Affairs and treasurer, announced.

As the university’s chief human resources officer, Mr. Clark will oversee and provide strategic leadership to Ball State’s University Human Resource Services. Guided by the university’s strategic plan and enduring values, he will work in service with administrators, faculty, and staff to lead, build, and maintain a customer service-oriented human resources function that focuses on talent acquisition, employee development, employee well-being, benefits, compensation, and employee/labor relations.

“We are excited to bring Darrell aboard to lead Ball State’s human resources function,” Mr. Finn said. “As we move forward, Darrell and his team will play a crucial role in the continued transformation of our human resources into an area that is a thought partner in problem-solving and as a department devoted to being a ‘best practices’ model of people and culture enhancement.”

Mr. Clark, who is currently a Ph.D. candidate in ethical leadership at St. Thomas University, has more than 20 years of experience in human resources and employment recruitment—including the last four-plus years in higher education at Pasco-Hernando State College in New Port Richey, Fla., where he has served as assistant vice president, associate vice president, and chief human resources officer since 2018.

“I am grateful to Ball State University for this wonderful opportunity,” Mr. Clark said. “It was enlightening to discover how Ball State’s enduring values—particularly its commitment to equity, inclusion, and diversity—align with my own personal values. I look forward to working with partners across campus to continue strengthening the recruitment, development, and well-being of all Ball State employees.”

Mr. Clark started his professional career at FedEx Ground in 2001, where he served as a regional recruiter, human resources representative, and senior human resources generalist. From 2014-2018, he served as manager of human resources/human capital partner at Pasco County (Fla.) Schools, before transitioning into his current role at Pasco-Hernando State College.

Mr. Clark earned his master’s degree in employment law from Nova Southeastern University, and his bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of South Florida.

In addition to announcing Mr. Clark’s hiring, Mr. Finn thanked Robert Crouch for his service as interim associate vice president for human resources.
