@ButlerUWSoccer Scores Late to Defeat Villanova

The Butler women's soccer team dominated play throughout but waited until the 86th minute to punch in the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win over Villanova. The Bulldogs (5-6-1, 2-2-0 BIG EAST) outshot the Wildcats (3-5-2, 2-2-0 BIG EAST) 30-2, hitting the post or crossbar four times, but struggled to finish until a set-piece opportunity as the clock was winding down.

Also tonight, Butler recognized the ongoing connection between the women's soccer program and TOPSoccer, a community-based training program for athletes with intellectual, emotional, and/or physical disabilities. The Bulldogs players and coaches spend Sunday evenings with several TOPSoccer friends from the community, providing supportive and fun soccer experiences for everyone involved.

Key Moment

  • 86' | Alexei Whittaker draws a foul 25 yards out, on the right side. On the ensuing free kick, Abigail Isger sends a ball toward the crowd. Amelie Darey reaches it first and skips it forward to the far post. Caitlin O'Malley takes it off the bounce with her hip and, when the ball comes to the ground, strikes it low and under the Villanova keeper into the back of the net.
