U.S. Senator Todd Young and U.S. Representative Jefferson Shreve, along with the entire Indiana delegation, have reached out to the United States Postal Service (USPS) concerning delivery delays at the Indianapolis distribution hub. In a letter to USPS, they highlighted the impact of these delays on individuals and businesses.

“These delays have had real consequences for individuals and businesses alike. Constituents have reported late deliveries of medications, critical financial documents, and essential business shipments. This is primarily reflected in the issues found with the USPS Regional Processing Center on the east side of Indianapolis,” stated the delegation.

The letter seeks an explanation for the delays and outlines specific actions USPS is taking to resolve them. Besides Young and Shreve, signatories include U.S. Senator Jim Banks and Representatives Frank Mrvan, Rudy Yakym, Marlin Stutzman, Jim Baird, Victoria Spartz, André Carson, Mark Messmer, and Erin Houchin.

In their correspondence addressed to Postmaster General DeJoy, they express serious concerns about mail disruptions in Indiana linked to the Indianapolis hub. The delegation noted receiving numerous complaints from constituents about significant mail service disruptions.

They further detailed that packages are often “stuck in transit” at the processing center for extended periods. Issues were also noted with mail being rerouted through Louisville instead of Evansville due to restructuring efforts.

These challenges extend into rural areas where post offices are closing or limiting services, causing inconvenience for residents who depend heavily on postal services.

The delegation requests a comprehensive explanation of delay causes and steps taken by USPS to address them. They also seek updates on immediate changes at the Indianapolis facility aimed at reducing package wait times and ensuring reliable access to postal services for Hoosiers.
