U.S. Senators Todd Young and Jon Ossoff have introduced the Youth Sports Facilities Act, aiming to enhance youth sports facilities across the United States. The legislation seeks to provide children and families with recreational spaces while promoting mental health and economic growth.

Senator Young emphasized the importance of youth sports in fostering healthy lifestyles and essential life skills. "This bill would empower communities to use existing grant funds to improve youth sports facilities for children living in areas of need, encouraging greater youth sports participation in Indiana and across the nation," he stated.

Senator Ossoff highlighted the benefits for Georgia families, noting that "this bipartisan bill will help Georgia communities expand youth sports facilities, strengthen local economies, and foster mental and physical health for the next generation."

The proposed act aims to broaden the eligibility of grants from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration, focusing on rural and urban areas. By increasing recreational facilities, it hopes to promote active lifestyles and stimulate local economic development.

The National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), YMCA of the USA, Sports and Fitness Industry Association (SFIA), and Pop Warner Little Scholars support this initiative. Kyle Simpson from NRPA remarked on its potential impact: "Youth sports are a vital part of America’s fabric... This critical legislation will expand access to high-quality youth sports programs nationwide."

Jeffrey Britt from YMCA of the USA pointed out that such facilities could boost local economies as families participate in sporting events. Todd Smith from SFIA noted that reducing barriers to sports participation is crucial for children's development.

Jon Butler from Pop Warner Little Scholars addressed safety concerns due to limited athletic facilities: "The Youth Sports Facilities Act will provide for more facilities being available for our children... As childhood obesity numbers rise, it’s our duty to get kids off of their sofas."
