Gordon Lightfoot set for May 22 concert at Trine

1

Trine University recently issued the following announcement.

Ticket-holders have been remarkably patient, and their patience will soon be rewarded.

After nearly three years, Trine University will finally welcome Gordon Lightfoot to the Ryan Concert Hall stage in the T. Furth Center for Performing Arts on Sunday, May 22.

Despite multiple delays due to injuries and the COVID-19 pandemic, most who purchased tickets have chosen to hang on to them. However, some seats are still available.

“We’re grateful for everyone who has waited so long and looking forward to an incredible concert,” said Jennifer LaRose, director of campus experience at Trine. “We also encourage any Gordon Lightfoot fans who weren’t available on the prior dates to get the remaining tickets before they’re gone!”

Remaining tickets are available for $45 to $70 at trineutickets.universitytickets.com. The concert will begin at 8 p.m. on the Ryan Concert Hall stage, with doors to the Furth Center opening one hour prior.

The legendary folk singer was originally supposed to appear at the Furth Center in 2019, but was forced to postpone the appearance until 2020 due to injury. The 2020 concert, like many events, fell victim to the novel coronavirus pandemic, and a rescheduled 2021 date was scuttled by another Lightfoot injury.

With more than 50 active years of hit song making and international album sales well into the multimillions, Gordon Lightfoot resides with some very exclusive company atop the list of all-time greats. His song catalog is incredibly vast and includes such immortals as “Early Morning Rain,” “If You Could Read My Mind,” “Carefree Highway,” “Sundown,” “(That's What You Get) For Lovin’ Me,” “The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald," "Canadian Railroad Trilogy," "Ribbon Of Darkness," "Beautiful," "Song For A Winter's Night" and "Rainy Day People," to name a few.

Lightfoot has recorded 20 albums and has five Grammy nominations. His songs have been aired regularly for more than 50 years, earning him Radio Singles Chart Positions in North America achieved by few others. Lightfoot's radio hits in the USA have earned five No. 1s, five Top 10s and 13 Top 40 hits. In Canada he has earned 16 No. 1s, 18 Top 10s and 21 Top 40 hits.

Aside from his success in writing, singing and performing his own songs, Lightfoot has found fortune in having his songs recorded and performed by other great artists including Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams Jr., Marty Robbins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Judy Collins, Johnny Mathis, Anne Murray, Olivia Newton-John, Sarah McLachlan, Barbra Streisand, Peter Paul & Mary, Harry Belafonte, Jane’s Addiction, Richie Havens, Glen Campbell, Toby Keith and George Hamilton IV.

In June 2012, Lightfoot was honored for his role in defining the folk-pop sound of the 1960s and '70s when he was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

In his native Canada, Lightfoot is an indelible part of the national spirit and regarded as perhaps the most prolific and greatest Canadian singer-songwriter of all time. He has been decorated with the highest honors bestowed to a civilian, including the Governor's General Award and the Companion to the Order of Canada honor of merit. He has also won 17 Juno Awards, Canada's equivalent to the Grammy Awards. Lightfoot is a member of Canada's Walk of Fame and the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame. In 2007, Canada Post honored him by issuing an official Gordon Lightfoot postage stamp. Lightfoot is also in the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame.
