The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) has expressed approval for the signing of Senate Bill 1 into law by Governor Braun. The legislation provides tax exemptions for business equipment purchases made in 2025 and beyond, offering relief to Indiana's small business community. Particularly beneficial to small manufacturers and farmers, the small business exemption will increase from $80,000 to $1 million in 2025, with a further increase to $2 million in 2026.
NFIB Indiana State Director, Natalie Robinson, remarked, "At a time when economic uncertainty is high, small businesses appreciate any economic relief lawmakers in Indianapolis can provide." She further explained that Senate Bill 1 helps to lower the cost of capital investment for small businesses, allowing them to reinvest into their operations and communities. Robinson acknowledged the efforts of Governor Braun and the Legislature for offering enduring tax relief to Indiana’s small businesses.
The NFIB’s Problems and Priorities survey indicates that "Property Taxes (real, inventory or personal property)" rank high among small business owners' concerns, coming after "Federal Taxes on Business Income" and "State Taxes on Business Income."
