Governor Braun has signed a series of executive orders intended to bolster the labor market for small businesses in Indiana. The measures aim to curb unemployment insurance fraud and encourage active job-seeking among recipients.
NFIB Indiana State Director Natalie Robinson expressed support for these initiatives, stating: "The small business labor market is difficult, and small employers across Indiana continue to struggle to find qualified workers for their open positions. Governor Braun’s executive orders are a great step in working toward strengthening the labor market and promoting a robust Hoosier workforce. By working to reduce fraud in our Unemployment Insurance program and building up our employees, small businesses will benefit."
Executive Order 25-33 mandates the Department of Workforce Development to identify instances of fraud and misuse within the unemployment insurance system. Meanwhile, Executive Order 25-32 requires additional work search activities from unemployment insurance recipients. This includes mandatory contact with a Work One office during the first week of enrollment and more rigorous audits by the Department of Workforce Development to ensure compliance with work search requirements.
