United States Attorney Zachary A. Myers has announced his resignation, effective January 18, 2025. In a statement, Myers expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead the office and work with dedicated professionals. "It has been a privilege to lead this office of talented professionals who strive every day to make the public safer, hold lawbreakers accountable, and ensure that our rights are protected," said U.S. Attorney Myers.
During his tenure, Myers implemented a strategic plan focused on prosecuting serious offenses and enhancing community outreach. His efforts in combatting gun violence included prosecuting serial offenders and addressing illegal arms trafficking in Indianapolis, Chicago, and allegedly Mexico.
Myers prioritized federal prosecution resources against illegally armed domestic abusers through the LEATH Initiative, securing significant prison sentences for offenders.
In tackling drug trafficking, Myers's office targeted fentanyl traffickers linked to cartels based in Mexico. Efforts were made to dismantle drug conspiracies across Indiana.
Myers also expanded civil rights protections by prosecuting hate crimes and discrimination cases while promoting community awareness through initiatives like United Against Hate.
The protection of children from sexual exploitation was another focus area under Myers's leadership. The office prosecuted predators using online platforms and secured long-term prison sentences for those exploiting minors.
Efforts against public corruption led to prosecutions within Muncie's City Hall and accountability for Indiana state legislators involved in bribery schemes. Additionally, police officers engaged in misconduct faced significant legal consequences under Myers’s direction.
Fraud targeting individuals and government programs was actively pursued by Myers’s team through criminal prosecutions and civil enforcement actions resulting in substantial recoveries.
Before becoming U.S. Attorney, Zachary A. Myers served as an Assistant United States Attorney focusing on cybercrime. He holds degrees from Stanford University, George Washington University, and Georgetown University Law Center.
Upon his departure, First Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan E. Childress will assume the role of Acting U.S. Attorney under the Vacancies Reform Act until a permanent successor is appointed.
