George Tracy, a 21-year-old resident of Indianapolis, has been sentenced to over thirteen years in federal prison. This follows his guilty plea for discharging a firearm during a violent crime. The sentence includes three years of supervised release.
Court documents reveal that on November 22, 2022, Tracy committed an armed robbery at a Mobile gas station on Central Ave in Indianapolis. During the incident, he fired his weapon three times towards an employee behind the counter and stole approximately $200 from the register. One of the shots hit the employee in the left upper leg, necessitating hospitalization. After shooting the victim, Tracy reportedly said, “have a good day bro.”
The robbery was captured on video surveillance. A subsequent search of Tracy’s home led officers to recover both the firearm used in the crime and clothing matching those seen in the footage.
“Our hearts go out to the victim of this senseless shooting, who will carry the scars and trauma from this vicious crime for the rest of their life,” stated Zachary A. Myers, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana. He added that such crimes undermine community safety and emphasized that federal law enforcement would not tolerate them.
The case was investigated by both FBI and IMPD officials. U.S. District Judge James R. Sweeney handed down Tracy's sentence.
U.S. Attorney Myers expressed gratitude to Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeremy C. Fugate for prosecuting this case.
This prosecution is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities.
