The United States Senate has unanimously passed a resolution recognizing the 120th anniversary of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (BBBS). The resolution, led by U.S. Senators Todd Young (R-Ind.) and Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.), commends BBBS for its work in mentoring young Americans and strengthening communities. It also supports the continuation and expansion of BBBS programs.
Senator Young reflected on his own experience as a mentor through BBBS: "Years ago, I had the opportunity to be a mentor through a Big Brothers Big Sisters program. The experience helped me understand the incredible impact that connection can have on both the Big Brother and the Little Brother," he said. "I’m glad to lead this resolution honoring the work of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, and I am committed to ensuring more young people are able to benefit from its life-changing programs."
Senator Hassan emphasized the organization's role in helping children reach their potential: "Big Brothers Big Sisters plays an important role in helping children in New Hampshire and across the country reach their full potential," she said. "As the organization marks its 120th anniversary, I am grateful for the work of Big Brothers Big Sisters and all of its volunteer mentors who help our children thrive."
BBBS of America President and CEO Artis Stevens expressed gratitude for the Senate's recognition: "For 120 years, our evidence-based approach has demonstrated that positive mentorship in the lives of young people has changed lives and communities for the better," he said. "We thank Senators Young, Hassan and all of our co-sponsors for their leadership on this resolution which recognizes this milestone celebration and our impact on the youth we serve. We look forward to our continued work together with Congress to directly contribute to the empowerment of young people across the country."
BBBS of Central Indiana CEO Darcey Palmer-Shultz highlighted local support: "We’re grateful for the leadership of Senators Young and Hassan in sponsoring this bipartisan resolution. Big Brothers Big Sisters is proud to serve thousands of young people and families thanks to thousands of volunteer mentors throughout the state of Indiana," she said.
