Congressman Jim Banks has asserted that President Biden's "open border policies" are endangering American lives. Banks made this claim on March 21, in response to a video depicting a group of immigrants breaching the southern border fencing and rushing towards National Guard officers.

"Biden's border bloodbath continues to intensify," said Jim Banks, according to X. "Biden's open border policies put the lives of our brave men and women in border patrol (and all Americans) at risk!"

According to the New York Post, over 100 migrants attempted illegal entry into the US by storming a border fence while Texas National Guard troops endeavored to repel them. The video footage displays migrants breaking through fencing and razor wire as outnumbered guards attempt to hold them back. This incident took place during a period referred to as the "spring surge," when thousands of migrants tried to cross the border. A spokesperson from Governor Abbott's office informed the New York Post that this incident was a result of the "unsustainable chaos President Biden has unleashed on the border."

Fox News reports that following this surge of illegal immigrants who broke through razor wire, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced increased patrols along the southern border in El Paso, Texas. One arrest has been made for assaulting a soldier. According to CBP, all migrants were cleared from the site and "additional personnel had been deployed" to maintain control.

Banks was elected to represent Indiana’s 3rd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2016. Prior to his election to Congress, he served in the Indiana State Senate from 2010-2016. In 2021, Banks held the position of chairman of the Republican Study Committee.
