For winning two individual events in one relay in her collegiate debut, Ball State freshman Payton Kelly was named the Mid-American Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week.
In helping guide the Cardinals to a second-place finish at last Saturday's Indiana Intercollegiates hosted by Purdue, Kelly swam away with top honors in both the 50 and 100 freestyle events, while swimming leadoff for the winning 200 freestyle relay.
Kelly's first-place time of 23.45 in the 50 free was the fastest in the Mid-American Conference last weekend and the eight-best individual mark in program history.
Her 100 free clocking of 51.55 was also the best time in the MAC last week, and currently ranks sixth in the conference. In addition, she led the 200 free relay to a swim of 1:35.05 which was also the league's best last week and ranks third in the conference overall.
While the Cardinals return to action Friday by hosting Eastern Illinois at the Lewellen Aquatic Center at 6 p.m., Kelly will be in her native Canada for the 2022 FINA Swimming World Cup at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre. She is slated to compete in the 50, 100, and 200 freestyle events.
