Barry Keane, behind a strong fun at the NCAA Pre-Nationals meet Saturday, has been named the BIG EAST Male Athlete of the Week. The conference made the announcement Wednesday, Oct. 19.
Keane was the runner-up at the Weis-Crockett Invitational in Stillwater, Okla. The meet served as the NCAA Pre-Nationals. The NCAA Cross Country Championships will be held there on Nov. 19. Keane covered the 8K course in 23:30.7, less than two seconds behind the winner, Montana State's Duncan Hamilton. The field included ranked squads Montana State, Cal-Baptist, Arkansas, and host No. 4 Oklahoma State.
Keane led the Bulldogs to a third-place team finish.
Keane is the second male Bulldog to earn BIG EAST weekly honors in 2022, joining Jesse Hamlin (Sept. 13).
A portion of the Butler roster will run at the Illinois Invitational Friday as the 2022 BIG EAST Cross Country Championships loom Oct. 29.
