The Earlham College cross country team logged its final tune-up before the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship meet on Friday at the JennaStrong Fall Classic hosted by Wilmington College.
The meet honors former Wilmington runner Jenna Parlette, who collapsed while leading a race for the Fightin' Quakers in 2013. She passed away three days later. "Run with your legs, win with your heart" is the tag line for the JennaStrong Foundation.
The men's team was led by Ian Gorley, who came in 54th place overall with a time of 27:22.2 in the 8k race. Gorley was followed by Levi Call, who clocked a 29:27.8.
Lily Schamel led the women's squad with a 51st-place finish after posting a time of 21:28.3 in the 5k race. The time is her best so far in the 2022 season. Jillian Schlieper also recorded her season-best time with a 23:47.6, good enough for 109th place.
The men's team scored enough points for 22nd place as a team.
The conference championship meet takes place next weekend on the campus of Bluffton University. The women's event will kick things off at noon, while the men's race is slated for 1 pm.
