Lyon scores at Bluffton

In a game the Quakers led for 26 minutes, the Bluffton Beavers scored a goal in the 88th minute to take the lead over Earlham College 2-1 on Wednesday.

The Quaker women's soccer team fell to 3-6-2 (1-4 HCAC) while the Beavers improved to 3-8-1 (2-3 HCAC).

Eva Lyon scored the Quaker goal in the third minute of play with an assist from Mallory Smith. Smith was deep into the Bluffton corner and laid off a cross to the middle of the penalty area. Her cross slipped through three Beaver defenders and fell perfectly to Lyon who had space in front of the goal for a one-touch score.

Bluffton leveled the score in the 29th minute on a long shot that bounced high over Makayla Hurey's outstretched arm.

Neither team would score again for the next 60 minutes of play before the Beavers took the lead in the final minutes. Bluffton capitalized on a loose ball in front of the Earlham goal after a corner kick for a score.

The Quakers were outshot 12-8.

Hurey collected five saves in goal.

Lyon led the Quake in shots with three total, and two on goal.

The Quakers will be back in action against Franklin College on Saturday in Matlack-Messer Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 1 pm as part of Homecoming festivities on the day.
