Public Invited to Attend City-hosted Resource Fair for Tenants on Saturday, May 21

The City of Bloomington Department of Housing and Neighborhood Development (HAND), in partnership with the Housing and Eviction Prevention Project (HEPP), will host a Tenant Resource Fair in City Hall Council Chambers (room 115), 401 N Morton St. on Saturday, May 21 from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

All Bloomington residents that rent or want to learn more about residential renting in Bloomington are welcome to attend. This event will include representatives from government agencies, community organizations, and Indiana University, who will be present to answer questions and provide information about resources for tenants. Topics will include: eviction prevention, emergency rental and utilities assistance, down payment assistance, the City’s residential rental inspection program, City services such as trash & recycling and parking permits, fair housing, tenant rights and responsibilities, and much more!

“Bloomington needs to welcome and work for all its residents,” said Mayor John Hamiltion. “This includes supporting renters in knowing their rights as tenants and navigating access to affordable, safe, and stable housing.” 

More than a dozen organizations will be present for this event and tenants will have the opportunity to learn about resources from parking permits and recycling services to security deposit assistance and eviction prevention. Participants at the fair include: HAND, HEPP, Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority, Bloomington Housing Authority, South Central Community Action Program, Community Justice and Mediation Center, Indiana University Student Legal Services, Monroe County Apartment Association, Bloomington Township Trustee, Perry Township Trustee, State Senator Shelli Yoder, and sustainable communities consultant Deborah Myerson.
