Carmel’s unemployment rate 1.4 percent in January

2

City of Carmel recently issued the following announcement.

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development released labor statistics for cities, towns and counties in Indiana and Carmel’s rate has slightly increased but is still reflective of

a strong local economy. The rate for January 2022, was 1.4 percent, which is an increase from December’s .08 percent rate. The State of Indiana’s unemployment rate is 2.4

percent while the national rate is 4.0 percent, both of those are seasonally adjusted.

Carmel’s unemployment rate is tied with Westfield as having the lowest among any city in Hamilton County. Nearby Zionsville is slightly lower than both, with 1.1 percent.

As in previous months, this news is a positive indication of the success that Carmel has had in attracting highly educated residents who are able to fill high-wage jobs created by

the City’s 130-plus corporate headquarters and other local business employers.
