Trine University issued the following announcement on Oct. 15.

The Trine University men's basketball team begins the 2021-22 season as the seventh-ranked team in the nation, according to D3hoops.com. The Thunder received 386 votes, coming off the back of their 17-1 season one year ago.

The D3hoops.com Top 25 is voted on by a panel of 25 coaches, Sports Information Directors and media members from across the country, and is published weekly throughout the season. Trine is the only Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) member school listed in the top 25. Randolph-Macon was voted as the preseason favorite and secured 19 of the 25 first-place votes.

The defending MIAA regular and tournament champions return all but 53 points from last season, with senior Reese McGinsie being added as a Student Assistant Coach for the program in 2021-22. He joins the coaching staff of Brooks Miller, who is entering his 11th season at the helm of Trine men's basketball. He is assisted by Drew Lehman, John Wysong and Mike Cretens as well.

D3hoops.com All-American Nick Bowman [Angola, Ind. / Hamilton Southeastern] is back for his senior season. He averaged 21.8 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.5 steals per game last season, and shot 53.5% from the field and 41.0% from three. Brent Cox [Kendallville, Ind. / East Noble], Aiden Warzecha [Milford, Mich. / Milford], Bryce Williams [Archbold, Ohio / Archbold], Connor Jones [Danville, Ind. / Danville] and Mitchell Geller [Huntington, Ind. / Huntington North] all started at least eight games last season and look to make it two MIAA championships in a row.

The season-opener for the Thunder is on Saturday, November 6 against Mt. St. Joseph's. That game tips-off at 2 pm in the MTI Center.
