After Indiana Secretary of State Connie Lawson announced that she is resigning, House Speaker Todd Huston of Fishers released a statement in appreciation of the secretary of state’s commitment and tireless effort working for the people.
“Secretary Lawson played an instrumental role in securing and reforming our election system, and streamlining government services for Hoosier businesses,” Huston said in a statement.
“We are especially thankful for her tireless efforts through the pandemic to ensure the integrity of our democracy and voters' access to the polls,” Huston added. “She’s a steady hand at the wheel no matter the challenge of the day, and a staunch advocate for the voice of all Indiana voters. I’m proud to call Connie my friend and I wish her the very best in retirement.”
Lawson is stepping down from her role two years ahead of the end of her term. She said that she would leave once Gov. Eric Holcomb has someone to replace her.
“Indiana’s own Iron Lady, Secretary of State Connie Lawson, has long defined what true public service and leadership is and ought to be all about,” Holcomb said in a statement. “Throughout her time in county, legislative and statewide office, she set the standard for commitment, composure, class, and credibility. No matter the year or issues of the day, citizens could bank on Connie Lawson leading the way and inspiring others to follow.”
