The United States Department of Agriculture released the National Daily Cattle & Beef Summary from Des Moines, Iowa, on June 2. The report includes daily estimated cutout values, primal values, slaughter data, and market prices for cattle and beef products.
According to the summary, the daily estimated choice cutout value was $394.07 per hundredweight and select was $384.81 per hundredweight, with a choice/select spread of $9.26. Primal rib values were reported at $548.78 for choice and $515.08 for select grades. The total load count included 115 loads: 80 choice, 17 select, and 19 grinds.
The report also detailed fresh trimmings activity as zero loads at a price of zero dollars. Five area weekly accumulated weighted average cattle prices showed live steer head count at 214 with an average weight of 1,450 pounds and an average price of $255 per hundredweight.
Daily cattle slaughter was reported at 110,000 head compared to a week ago figure of 111,000 head and last year’s actual figure of 119,464 head for the same day. Week-to-date slaughter reached 214,000 head versus last year’s period total of 234,099 head.
Beef production estimates indicated that current week slaughter totaled approximately 448,000 head with live weights averaging at 1,469 pounds and dressed weights at about 900 pounds each. Estimated beef production stood at around 403 million pounds compared to previous weeks’ figures.
