The public is invited to a town hall today, April 14, from 6 to 8 pm at the Gillespie Event Center. The event aims to discuss pressing issues and provide an opportunity for constituents to hear from their elected representative, Rep. Rudy Yakym.

The event is co-hosted by Common Cause Indiana and the Michiana Alliance for Democracy, a member of the Indivisible network. As of now, Rep. Yakym has been invited, though he has not confirmed his attendance.

Attendees will hear from experts on topics including education, immigration, civil rights, campus free speech, health care, the environment, and foreign policy. A question and answer session will also be included in the town hall.

Julia Vaughn, Executive Director of Common Cause Indiana, stated, “As the People’s Lobby, Common Cause Indiana believes it’s important to hold space for our elected officials to hear from the people, directly. Nearly every aspect of Hoosiers’ lives has been disrupted in the last 3 months, and we want to hold our elected officials accountable by creating a space for the people to organize and be heard.”

Cheryl Nix from the Michiana Alliance for Democracy expressed, “Michiana Alliance for Democracy is proud to team up with Common Cause Indiana. We are disappointed that Representative Yakym has not responded to our invitation to be a part of this Town Hall forum. We will move forward with this event and provide the opportunity for voters to ask questions and express concerns. We have invited a panel of experts on a wide range of topics to help inform the discussion. We plan to hand deliver written audience questions for Representative Yakym if he chooses not to attend.”
