City of Carmel issued the following announcement on Oct. 21.
Bike Carmel & ‘Spokes’ to host bicycle donation day
The City of Carmel and Bike Carmel will join Freewheelin’ Community Bikes in hosting a Donation Day on Saturday, October 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Carmel City Hall parking lot. Do you have an old bike in the garage or some leftover parts lying around? Help the City and Freewheelin’ Community Bikes get these into the hands of kids. Bike Carmel mascot ‘Spokes’ will also be on location to lend a hand and provide some laughs.
Donators are asked to consider donating bicycles and bicycle components that you’re no longer using. Bicycle donations are an important part of Freewheelin’ Community Bikes’ mission to provide safe, reliable and affordable transportation. The following items are especially useful:
Bikes with multiple speeds/gears
Quality bike shop brand-names and vintage steel frame bikes
Modern comfort bikes, mountain bikes, road bikes, and cruisers
Bicycle parts
Donated products will be used to enrich youth programming and to provide affordable transportation options to the Freewheelin’ community. If your donation cannot be used by Freewheelin’ or its partners, they will responsibly recycle all metal. Last year Freewheelin’ Community Bikes recycled more than 4,000 pounds of metal waste!
When dropping off your donations, you will be asked to enter from the south east corner of the parking lot and follow the signs to the north west corner before exiting from the north east exit back on to Veterans Way.
