U.S. Senator Todd Young (R-Ind.) and several Senate colleagues introduced the Supporting Pregnant and Parenting Women and Families Act on Mar. 30, aiming to protect funding for pregnancy resource centers and community-based family organizations.
The proposed legislation seeks to ensure that pregnant women and new mothers continue to have access to essential support services, particularly in low-income and underserved communities. It would safeguard federal funding for organizations offering parenting education, material assistance, housing referrals, and health care guidance.
Young was joined by Senators Tim Scott (R-S.C.), Jim Justice (R-W.Va.), John Cornyn (R-Texas), and Jim Risch (R-Idaho) in introducing the bill. The act is intended to prevent politically or ideologically motivated restrictions on funding for these organizations. “Pregnancy resource centers play an important role in our communities. They provide critical care to women and families, including parenting education, counseling, and material support like diapers and baby supplies. Our bill will ensure that states, including Indiana, can continue to champion and support these centers,” said Senator Young.
Senator Scott said: “Supporting women means ensuring they have real resources, real care, and real options. I am proud to lead this legislation to protect and strengthen the community organizations that serve women and families every day—offering guidance, support, and critical services so no mother faces pregnancy or parenthood alone.” Senator Justice added: “Our pregnancy resource centers need to know that we have their backs… This bill makes it clear: states can continue to partner with these organizations without the federal government limiting their funding… This is just common sense, and a strong step in the right direction.” Senator Cornyn said: “Pregnancy resource centers have a long history of empowering women on their journey to motherhood… By permanently prohibiting any restrictions on TANF funding for pregnancy centers, this legislation would safeguard these life-changing organizations against the woke policies of future Democrat administrations.” Senator Risch said: “Pregnancy centers are often an important lifeline for mothers and growing families… The Supporting Pregnant and Parenting Women and Families Act ensures these critical resources remain available to those who need it most.”
A coalition of national advocacy groups supports the measure.
