U.S. Senator Todd Young joined a bipartisan group of senators in introducing a resolution on May 1 that affirms concern over the growing threat China poses to America’s national security and economic prosperity. The resolution was introduced at what the senators call a pivotal moment for U.S.-Chinese relations.
The measure urges continued focus on strengthening deterrence in the Indo-Pacific, protecting American workers and businesses from unfair economic practices, maintaining leadership in artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies, supporting allies and partners, preserving peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, and advancing human rights and democratic values.
Alongside Young, senators Chris Coons, Pete Ricketts, Jeanne Shaheen, Ted Cruz, Tim Kaine, Bernie Moreno, Patty Murray, John Curtis, Andy Kim, Dave McCormick, Tammy Duckworth, Jim Banks, Elissa Slotkin, Thom Tillis and Roger Wicker also introduced the resolution. The text states that addressing security, economic, technological, diplomatic and strategic threats posed by China should be a top foreign policy priority for the United States.
