The U.S. Senate has unanimously approved a resolution recognizing the Indiana Hoosiers football team for winning the College Football Playoff National Championship and achieving an undefeated 16-0 season. The resolution was introduced by Senators Todd Young and Jim Banks, both representing Indiana.

Senator Young, who has represented Indiana in the Senate since 2017 and serves on several committees related to finance, commerce, science and transportation, small business, and intelligence (https://www.young.senate.gov/), expressed his pride in leading this recognition effort. “As an IU fan since the Bill Mallory era, I’m proud to lead this Senate resolution celebrating the national champion Indiana Hoosiers. Congressional recognition will give IU fans one more way to Google the wins from this historic season. Thank you to the players, Coach Cignetti, and the entire IU staff for such a special season that will be cherished in our state for generations,” said Senator Young.

Senator Banks also commented on the team’s accomplishment: “Indiana is so proud of this team and their historic 16-0 championship season. The whole country was cheering for Coach Cignetti, Fernando Mendoza, and the Hoosiers as they showed incredible class, teamwork, and grit. As an alum and Indiana’s new U.S. Senator I couldn’t be more proud and I can’t wait to see them do it again next season.”

Senator Young’s official website details his background in public service including time as a U.S. Marine Corps officer and degrees from institutions such as the U.S. Naval Academy and Indiana University (https://www.young.senate.gov/). He has focused on issues impacting communities in Indiana like affordable housing, veterans’ support, national security, economic growth, artificial intelligence policy (https://www.young.senate.gov/), as well as championing legislation such as the CHIPS and Science Act to strengthen semiconductor manufacturing in the United States (https://www.young.senate.gov/).
