State Representative Chris Judy encouraged residents on May 18 to participate in an upcoming public hearing about a proposed quarry project in southwest Allen County. The session is scheduled for Tuesday, May 26, at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.

The hearing will be hosted by the Allen County Plan Commission and the Allen County Board of Zoning Appeals. It aims to give community members a chance to review updated details, ask questions, and provide feedback regarding the development proposal.

“This is a significant proposal that has generated strong interest across our community,” Judy said. “As I have said previously, it is critical that residents have access to clear information and the opportunity to be heard before any decisions are made that can impact Hoosier families, land use and the long-term effects on the community.”

The planned project involves building a large-scale quarry near established neighborhoods, Lafayette Meadows Elementary School within Southwest Allen County Schools district, and medical facilities operated by IU Health. Community members have expressed concerns about how this could affect local land use and nearby public facilities.

Judy described the upcoming hearing as an important part of ensuring transparency in decision-making processes for major developments affecting local families. “Regardless of where people stand on this project, I encourage everyone to attend, stay engaged and make their voices heard through the appropriate channels,” Judy said. “These are the kinds of decisions that benefit from full transparency and active community participation.”

The public hearing will begin at 5:30 p.m., with Judy’s office available for questions or comments from constituents.
