The American Legion Riders announced on May 14 that a special quilt marking the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary will be auctioned during the 2026 Legacy Run.
The quilt, handcrafted and donated by Ann Rehbein, a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary and former Quilts of Valor Executive Director, is intended to support fundraising efforts for veterans’ families. The event highlights ongoing efforts to honor America’s history while raising money for causes benefiting veterans, military families, and children.
According to the announcement, “This is not just a quilt. It is a piece of American history you can hold.” The front of the quilt features imagery from the signing of the Declaration of Independence along with an American eagle and “250 Years” emblem. The reverse side displays symbols representing modern-day patriotism and unity.
Rehbein currently serves as national treasurer for Quilts of Valor and is an executive committee member in Iowa’s American Legion Auxiliary Department. Her previous donations have raised thousands for related charities, including $4,000 for the Veterans & Children Foundation at the 2025 National Convention in Tampa. “Her generous donation this year transforms this quilt into more than artwork. It becomes a direct investment in our mission,” said organizers.
In addition to Rehbein’s quilt, another item set for auction includes a baseball cap donated and autographed by Larry the Cable Guy. Details regarding how bidding will take place are still being finalized.
For two decades, proceeds from Legacy Run auctions have provided critical support through organizations such as the Veterans & Children Foundation. David Heredia Jr., chief road captain for the 2026 Legacy Run, said participants have an opportunity not only to remember America’s story but also “to help carry it forward.”
