The ALL IN for Democracy coalition is set to hold a press conference to present new findings on why many young adults in Indiana do not participate in elections. The data, gathered by ReCenter Indiana and Count Us Indiana, involved surveys and focus groups with state residents under 35. Leaders from the coalition will discuss policy recommendations aimed at addressing barriers faced by voters, particularly younger ones.

Julia Vaughn, Executive Director of Common Cause Indiana, commented on the findings: “This latest data will confirm what we already know: legislators have made it harder for certain Hoosiers to vote, adding new barriers and red tape. Once Hoosiers see the data, we expect legislators to act to ensure their constituents are heard by increasing voter participation.”

The press conference is scheduled for January 28 at 1:30 pm on the third floor of the State House’s South Atrium.

Common Cause Indiana serves as the state affiliate of a national nonpartisan group that promotes democratic processes and voter access. Through its advocacy efforts—including those on issues like redistricting and ethical standards—the organization works toward open and fair political systems statewide. It mobilizes supporters for initiatives such as rallies and election protection activities. As part of a broader network with chapters in over 25 states, Common Cause Indiana maintains members across every congressional district in the state. Its activities include lobbying for legislative changes related to campaign finance and redistricting and collaborating with lawmakers from different political backgrounds. Since its formation as an Indiana chapter in 1970, it has achieved reforms such as securing changes to redistricting procedures in Bloomington and Monroe County.
