The Notre Dame Fighting Irish men’s lacrosse team will play against the Syracuse Orange in the NCAA Tournament semifinals at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville, Virginia, on May 23. The game is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Eastern Time and will be broadcast on ESPN2.

This matchup determines which team advances to the national championship game. Notre Dame has a strong record in recent NCAA tournaments, having won championships in both 2023 and 2024. The Irish have participated in eight Championship Weekends, with seven of those appearances since the 2010 season.

Notre Dame enters this contest with an overall record of 32-26 across its 29 trips to the NCAA Championship and is currently tied for the longest active quarterfinal streak with four straight appearances. In their last four tournament runs, they have gone 11-1, including eight wins by five or more goals.

The upcoming game marks the 25th all-time meeting between Notre Dame and Syracuse; both teams are tied at twelve wins each heading into this semifinal. Recently, Notre Dame has had success against Syracuse, winning eleven of their last fifteen encounters. During their regular-season meeting this year, Max Busenkell and Luke Miller each scored hat tricks as Notre Dame secured a victory by outscoring Syracuse nine to three over the final thirty minutes.

On defense, Notre Dame allows just under nine goals per game—ranking fifth nationally—and has held several top opponents such as Georgetown and North Carolina to season-low scoring outputs. Goalie Thomas Ricciardelli was named ACC Goalie of the Year after recording a save percentage of nearly fifty-eight percent during his senior campaign.

Looking ahead, standout defenseman Shawn Lyght was named a Tewaaraton Award finalist—the first time a defenseman from any program has achieved that honor since Matt Landis did so for Notre Dame in 2016. Head coach Kevin Corrigan continues his historic tenure as Division I’s all-time leader for program wins following forty seasons coaching men’s lacrosse.
