The Notre Dame Fighting Irish men’s lacrosse team will play against the top-seeded Princeton Tigers for the NCAA national championship on May 25 in Charlottesville, Virginia, with the opening faceoff scheduled for 1 p.m. Eastern Time and broadcast coverage provided by ESPN.
Notre Dame enters the final as the No. 2 seed, seeking its third national title in four seasons. The program has captured championships in both 2023 and 2024 and holds a record of 33-26 over its 29 appearances in the NCAA Championship. The Irish have reached Championship Weekend eight times, including three of the last four seasons, and are tied for the longest active quarterfinal streak with four straight appearances.
Monday’s matchup marks only the third meeting between Notre Dame and Princeton; each team has one win in their previous encounters. Their most recent game was during the first round of the 2010 NCAA Tournament, where Notre Dame secured an 8-5 victory at Princeton.
Notre Dame has posted a strong record against ranked opponents since early 2023, going 33-9 overall and recording significant wins over teams such as Johns Hopkins, Syracuse (twice), North Carolina, Richmond, Georgetown, and Ohio State this season. Defensively, they have allowed just 8.46 goals per game this year—ranking fifth nationally—and have held several high-powered offenses to season lows.
Individually, Shawn Lyght was named a Tewaaraton Award finalist—the first defenseman to earn that distinction since Matt Landis did so for Notre Dame in 2016—and won his second consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Year honor. Goalie Thomas Ricciardelli earned ACC Goalie of the Year after posting a save percentage of .582 with an average of just over eight goals allowed per game.
Head coach Kevin Corrigan leads Notre Dame into another championship opportunity after surpassing Bob Shillinglaw’s Division I record for most wins at a single program with his milestone victory over Duke in April 2021.
