The No. 2-seed Notre Dame Fighting Irish will play against Johns Hopkins in the NCAA men’s lacrosse quarterfinals at James M. Shuart Stadium in Hempstead, New York, at noon on May 16. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU.

Notre Dame has had significant success in recent NCAA tournaments, having won two of the last three national championships and advancing to the quarterfinals in 14 of the last 16 tournaments. The team is currently tied for the longest active streak with four straight quarterfinal appearances.

Saturday’s matchup marks the eighth time Notre Dame and Johns Hopkins have met, all within NCAA Championship play. Although Notre Dame trails Johns Hopkins with a record of three wins and four losses, they have won each of their last two meetings. Notably, their first win came during the quarterfinals of the 2001 tournament, which led to their first semifinal appearance.

The Fighting Irish have shown strong performance against ranked teams since early 2023, posting a record of 31-9 overall and an impressive mark against top-10 opponents. This season alone they are 8-1 versus ranked opposition and hold a defensive average of just over eight goals allowed per game—fifth best nationally.

Several players have been recognized for individual achievements this season. Shawn Lyght was named a Tewaaraton Award finalist as a defenseman—the first such honor for his position since Matt Landis in 2016—and Thomas Ricciardelli earned ACC Goalie of the Year honors while leading Notre Dame to an ACC regular season title.

Head coach Kevin Corrigan continues to set records as well; he became Division I’s all-time leader for program wins after surpassing Bob Shillinglaw with his victory over Duke on April 10, 2021. Corrigan has coached at Notre Dame for nearly four decades and remains one of only four active Division I coaches with more than three hundred career wins.

As both teams prepare for Saturday’s contest, observers will watch closely to see if Notre Dame can extend its postseason run or if Johns Hopkins can reverse recent outcomes between these programs.
