Miguel Bermudez-Herrera, a 48-year-old Mexican national, has been sentenced to six months in prison for felony reentry of a removed alien. The sentencing was handed down by United States District Court Judge Gretchen S. Lund, according to an announcement from United States Attorney Adam L. Mildred.

After completing his prison term, Bermudez-Herrera will be subject to one year of supervised release. This period of supervision will apply if he remains in or returns to the United States without authorization following his expected removal proceedings.

Court documents show that Bermudez-Herrera had previously been removed from the United States twice, once in 1997 and again in 2008. He has been held in custody since his arrest on October 10, 2025.

The investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations with support from the Valparaiso Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Zachary D. Heater prosecuted the case.
