The Indiana Department of Transportation announced that the INDOT Hoosier Helpers, sponsored by GEICO, are supporting motorists throughout Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month.

According to the department, “Helmets can save a life. If you’re riding, protect yourself and always wear a DOT-compliant helmet and high visibility gear. Learn how to find the right fit at NHTSA.gov/Motorcycles. Cover your arms and legs, wear over-the-ankle boots, and don’t forget gloves for protection and grip. Being seen is being safe.”

The department also said riders should ensure their motorcycles are road-ready before each trip by checking tire pressure and tread depth, brakes, headlights and signals, fluid levels, for any oil or gas leaks, and making sure cargo is secure and balanced.

“If the unexpected happens, the Hoosier Helpers are ready. We service all types of vehicles including motorcycles. This month and every month let’s keep every ride a safe one,” according to the Indiana Department of Transportation.

More information about this initiative can be found in the organization’s press release.
