The Indiana Department of Transportation announced this week that safety and sustainability are closely linked, as the agency marks National Work Zone Awareness Week. The INDOT Hoosier Helpers, sponsored by GEICO, are reminding drivers to slow down, stay alert, and watch for workers improving roadways.
The department noted that Earth Day falls within the same week, providing an opportunity to highlight how Hoosier Helpers contribute to environmental protection. By assisting stalled vehicles and clearing incidents quickly, they help reduce congestion. This leads to fewer emissions and cleaner air.
Drivers can also contribute by adopting sensible driving habits. Recommendations include removing excess weight from vehicles, avoiding excessive idling, and keeping tires properly inflated.
“Slow down, stay focused, and help us protect both the people working on our roads and the environment we all share,” the Indiana Department of Transportation said.
