Indianapolis Public Schools announced on May 8 the recipients of its 2027 Teachers of the Year awards, recognizing two educators for their contributions both inside and outside the classroom.
The annual honors highlight the dedication and impact that teachers have within Indianapolis Public Schools, which serves over 30,000 students and emphasizes racial equity as a core strategic priority, according to the official website.
At Christian Park School 82, Nuri Rodriguez was celebrated by students and colleagues. Principal Anna Simpson said, “Nuri displayed her dedication and skill when she stepped in to lead two classrooms while her teammate was on leave. She consistently supports staff and students while maintaining high expectations for herself and others.”
At George Washington High School, Justice received recognition for helping students achieve academic success through consistent routines and strong relationships. Dr. Gregory Paxon, dean of students, said, “As the leader of the Kindness Club, she promotes a culture of positivity and support. She shows up for our students in every way—from the classroom to extracurriculars—and truly embodies what it means to care for a school community.”
Dr. Aleesia Johnson, superintendent of Indianapolis Public Schools according to the official website, praised both honorees: “Like our entire IPS teaching staff, Nuri and Megan lead with heart, purpose, and an unwavering commitment to their students. Every day, they are changing lives. That impact will be felt in our schools and throughout our community for years to come.”
