A federal jury in Indianapolis has convicted Deontai Williams, 33, on charges related to drug trafficking and illegal firearm possession. Williams was found guilty of distributing fentanyl, methamphetamine, and cocaine, as well as possessing eight firearms while being a convicted felon. The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration.

According to evidence presented at trial, authorities discovered Williams with about 40 grams of methamphetamine, 30 grams of cocaine, and 80 grams of fentanyl pills and powder on January 17, 2025. This amount of fentanyl is estimated to be equivalent to roughly 800 doses. In addition to the drugs, law enforcement recovered several firearms: a Delton AR-style pistol, an American Tactical AR-style pistol, a 12-gauge shotgun, a 28mm pistol, a Smith & Wesson .38 special revolver, a Rexio 22Lr firearm, a Glock 9mm pistol, and a Springfield 9mm pistol.

Evidence also showed that Williams had previously been convicted of multiple felonies. These included battery resulting in bodily injury to a person under age 14, unlawful residential entry, unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, and dealing in methamphetamine. Despite these convictions—which legally barred him from owning firearms—Williams continued his involvement in armed drug trafficking. Photographs presented during the trial depicted Williams holding several firearms.

U.S. District Chief Judge James R. Sweeney II presided over the trial and will determine Williams’s sentence at a later date.

U.S. Attorney Wheeler expressed appreciation for Assistant U.S. Attorneys Patrick Gibson and Samantha Spiro for prosecuting the case with support from Paralegal Specialist Shané Penney.
