Indiana’s Hands-Free Law marks its fifth anniversary, aiming to curb distracted driving by prohibiting drivers from holding mobile devices like smartphones and tablets while on the road. The law intends to enhance safety across Hoosier roadways. Statistics indicate that individuals who text while driving divert their attention from the road for an average of five seconds, significantly raising the risk of serious accidents. At a speed of 55 miles per hour, this distraction equates to driving the length of a football field without looking.
