U.S. Senator Todd Young (R-Ind.) has expressed support for Indiana’s recent selection as a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) Test Site. The designation is seen as an important step in advancing drone technology and strengthening national security.

“Reestablishing American leadership in drones is critical to our national security,” said Senator Young. “Today’s announcement designating Indiana as a drone test site affirms what we’ve long known – our state is uniquely positioned to help lead the way in the development and deployment of this important technology. With our strong defense industry, advanced manufacturing capabilities, innovative colleges and universities, and skilled Hoosier workforce, Indiana is ready to help unleash American drone dominance.”

Senator Young led a letter in December supporting Indiana’s application for the test site, which was signed by all members of the state’s congressional delegation.

As a member of the Senate Commerce Committee, Young works on issues related to drones at the federal level. He serves on several committees focused on finance, commerce, science, transportation, small business, entrepreneurship and intelligence. His legislative efforts have included championing measures like the CHIPS and Science Act to strengthen U.S. semiconductor production and supply chains. More information about his committee assignments and policy focus can be found on his official website.

Young has represented Indiana in the U.S. Senate since 2017 and maintains offices across several locations in the state including Indianapolis, New Albany, Fort Wayne and Valparaiso. His work also addresses issues such as national security, economic growth, housing affordability and veterans’ support (official website).
