Congressmen Brett Guthrie and Morgan Griffith have announced a hearing to discuss health insurance affordability. The event, titled “Lowering Health Care Costs for All Americans: An Examination of Health Insurance Affordability,” will take place on January 22, 2026, at the Rayburn House Office Building in Washington, D.C. Guthrie and Griffith criticized current health care policies, attributing rising costs to these measures and advocating for Republican-led solutions.
The hearing aims to address factors affecting health care affordability, such as government interference and lack of competition. It will include discussions with top health insurance companies. “Republicans have proposed many solutions to address this broken system,” said Guthrie and Griffith.
Gail Boudreaux, President and CEO of Elevance Health, is scheduled to testify. Her written testimony highlights that U.S. health care spending reached $5.3 trillion in 2024. She emphasizes that rising costs are driven by increased utilization and intensity of care across various services.
Elevance Health is recognized for its efforts in improving health outcomes through initiatives like Medicaid maternity programs and cancer care strategies. The organization focuses on enhancing lives through simplified healthcare approaches and serves millions via affiliated health plans. Boudreaux’s testimony suggests policy recommendations including addressing hospital pricing practices and promoting competition in prescription drugs.
The hearing will be open to the public and media, with a livestream available on the Energy and Commerce Committee’s website.
